PiN students are actively encouraged to seek collaboration with other labs and other institutions.  The entities listed below assist students in forming successfull collaborations with other labs (both at Harvard and at other institutions).

Harvard Brain Science Initiative. HBSI was formed in 2015 to coordinate the large number of neuroscience labs and resources at Harvard.  Directed by Michael E. Greenberg (Chair of the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School) and Joshua Sanes (Director of the Center for Brain Science at Harvard University), HBSI offers seed grants, puts on seminars and public events, and promotes collaboration among neuroscience labs across Harvard.

Harvard NeuroDiscover Center. The NeuroDiscovery Center promotes collaboration specifically among labs and facilities seeking to cure neurologic and psychiatric diseases, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, MS, ALS, and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Core Facilities at Harvard Medical School.  Core scientific facilities support research and collaboration by providing access to services, equipment, and staff that would be too expensive or difficult for a single lab to provide.  Core facilities include:

  • •The Research Instrumentation Core Facility
  • •Cell Biology Molecular Electron Microscopy Facility
  • •Cell Biology Conventional Electron Microscopy Facility
  • •Genetics Microscopy Facility
  • •Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center Enhanced Neuroimaging Core
  • •Neurobiology Imaging Facility
  • •The Nikon Imaging Center
  • •The Image and Data Analysis Core
  • •HMS Mouse Imaging Core
  • •The Drosophila RNAi Screening Center
  • •The Microfluidics Core
  • •The Research Imaging Solutions for Scientific Communication

Center for Brain Science.    The Center for Brain Science, based on the Harvard undergraduate campus in Cambridge, unites researchers pursuing the discovery of the function and structure of neural circuits.  Members of CBS come from the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard, the School of Engineering at Harvard, and most of the local hospitals.
